Laboratory Chemist – Sample and Extract Preparation Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Chemist to join our team at SGS. As a Laboratory Chemist, you will be responsible for sample homogenization, extraction, and extract cleanup. You will also perform routine laboratory tasks in support of all analytical chemists, including operation of rotovaps, soxhlets, manifolds, and other laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sample homogenization, extraction, and extract cleanup
  • Performing routine laboratory tasks in support of all analytical chemists
  • Recording accurate and complete routine data on work-up sheets
  • Ensuring that all instructions received are clear and accurate
  • Becoming proficient within one or more of the lab groups
  • Maintaining a clean lab environment
  • Training and mentoring of peers in methods and standard operating procedures
  • Following SOPs and completing required training parameters
  • Applying method-approved additional extract cleanup steps as required
  • Following correct methods and procedures to provide quality output
  • Balancing speed with accurate, high-quality work to meet production schedules
  • Controlling sample integrity to ensure accuracy of analyzed routine samples
  • Expediting information transfer to other staff/departments
  • Maintaining lab and equipment in a clean and organized manner
  • Adhering to the expectations outlined in SGS's Code of Ethics
  • Accountable for the Health, Safety, and Environment of personnel

Requirements

  • Education: Technical Diploma or BSc. in Chemistry or related science
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and energetic
  • Willingness to participate in flexible work schedules
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner
  • Proficient in using several types of computer software
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure
