Taxation Services Associate

About the Role:
The Taxation Services Associate will contribute to the overall success of a Scotiabank Taxation Services unit in Canada, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Review tax returns prepared by Tax Administrators and seasonal staff to ensure completeness and accuracy and to minimize risk.
- Prepare complex returns by proactively gathering or preparing all relevant supporting documentation, such as income statements, transactions, tax slips, capital gains & losses statements, and fees charged.
- Act as a secondary contact for all clients and partners. May be primary contact for a limited number of assigned clients.
- Proactively recognize tax issues as they affect the client's situation and ensure that the clients and our partners are made aware, as appropriate.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring thorough knowledge of, and strict adherence to, the Bank's Global Sales Practices, ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
- Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Requirements:
- Previous employment within a tax unit servicing individuals and trusts.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma.
- May be working towards an accounting designation.
- Pursuing the STEP or CSI Taxation Courses and keeps up-to-date with respect to legislative changes, particularly the frequent changes to the taxation of individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, and registered charities.
- Excellent computer skills are required, particularly in the use of tax preparation programs and MS Office, SalesForce, and the Broadridge Trust System.
