Senior Manager, Taxation

The Senior Manager, Taxation is a key role within our organization, responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of tax principles and the ability to analyze complex financial data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tax Returns: Prepare and review working papers to support corporate tax and information returns, as well as complete tax forms and supporting documentation on a timely basis.
  • Tax Compliance and Control Processes: Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax provisions, requisition all installments and payments for taxes, and maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Audits: Manage the process for year-end external tax audits and other audits by tax authorities, including the preparation of working papers, analysis, and supporting documentation.
  • Research, Planning, and Analysis: Research and analyze legislative and regulatory Canadian and U.S. federal and provincial/state income tax, policyholder tax, commodity, and retail sales tax issues, and provide recommendations on a variety of tax-related matters.

This role requires a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as excellent analytical and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8-10 years of progressive post-graduate tax experience, preferably in the life industry.

Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, especially Excel
  • Experience with Canadian Tax Return software such as Tax Prep and Insur Tax
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and unique rules associated with accounting and tax reporting
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly complex Excel spreadsheets and database models
  • Ability to manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
