Job Title: Clinical Perfusionist

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Perfusionist to join our Perfusion Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our cardiac surgery program.

Job Summary

The Clinical Perfusionist will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing circulatory support and homeostasis of patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass in cardiac and non-cardiac procedures. This will involve assembling, calibrating, and operating the heart-lung machine, as well as providing additional therapeutic services such as administering medical gases, anesthetics, and drugs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and optimize circulatory support and homeostasis of patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Assemble, calibrate, and operate the heart-lung machine
  • Provide additional therapeutic services such as administering medical gases, anesthetics, and drugs
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of the practice and safety standards
  • Participate in professional development, teaching, and education activities within Perfusion Services
Requirements
  • At minimum, completion of a BSc degree with a diploma in Cardiovascular Perfusion
  • Certification (or eligibility of certification) with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion (CSCP)/or American Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP)
  • Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice procedures, instruments, equipment, and special techniques
  • Specialized knowledge of extracorporeal physiology and mechanics (both adult and pediatric) required
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, and practices
  • Excellent judgment, problem recognition, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to organize work and set priorities for self and others
  • Highly developed expertise and effective communication with all other health team members
  • Ability to work both effectively and accurately, adapting under stressful conditions in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated interest in continuing education
