Job Summary:

Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. is seeking a compassionate and nurturing individual or couple to provide a stable and loving home environment for up to four children in our Southeast First Nation communities.

About the Role:

As a House Parent, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day primary care for the children, supporting their holistic wellness, and facilitating family and community connections. You will also be expected to maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, adhere to program and foster care regulations, and respond to incidents and concerns from a trauma-informed perspective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day primary care for the children, including supporting their physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental needs.
  • Support the children's holistic wellness by providing a stable and predictable routine, and encouraging participation in community events and activities.
  • Facilitate family and community connections by maintaining regular visits and attending community events with the children.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, adhering to program and foster care regulations.
  • Respond to incidents and concerns from a trauma-informed perspective, and provide support to the children as needed.
  • Support the children in attending medical appointments, therapeutic resources, counseling, or other appointments.
  • Participate in the assessment and case planning for the short and long-term care plans for the children.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation and reports, and provide to supervisor on a scheduled basis.
  • Communicate with support team, supervisor, and agency workers in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Attend all requisite training provided by or offered through Shawenim Abinoojii Inc.

Qualifications:

  • House Parent (single and/or couples) are required to live in the home located on the Southeast First Nation communities and provide a long-term stable family environment.
  • Experience providing foster care services for children.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous approaches to community-care.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe is preferred and a definite asset.
  • Expanded knowledge and skill base working with various social, psychological, and physical health needs.
  • Successful applicant(s) will also be required to provide proof of at least first two COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and a reliable vehicle with the ability to provide a clear drivers abstract.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment.
