Job Title: Caregiver
Job Summary: Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. is seeking a caring and nurturing individual or couple to provide a long-term, stable home environment for up to four children. The successful candidate will provide Foster Care services within the First Nation, in a home provided by Shawenim Abinoojii Inc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day primary care for the children.
- Support holistic wellness, including physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental needs of the child.
- Support a positive sense of self-identity through family relationships and community engagement.
- Facilitate family and community connection by maintaining regularly scheduled visits and attending community events with the children.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment with stable and predictable routines.
- Be a healthy role model and source of guidance and empowerment for the development of daily life and social skills.
- Respond to incidents and concerns from a trauma-informed perspective.
- Support the child in attending medical appointments, therapeutic resources, counseling, or other appointments.
- Participate in assessment and case planning for short and long-term care plans for the child.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation and reports and provide to supervisor on a scheduled basis.
- Communicate with support team, supervisor, and agency workers in a professional and cooperative manner.
Qualifications:
- House Parent (single and/or couples) required to live in the home located on the Southeast First Nation communities.
- Experience providing foster care services for children.
- Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous approaches to community-care.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe is preferred and a definite asset.
- Expanded knowledge and skill base working with various social, psychological, and physical health needs.
- Successful applicant will also be required to provide proof of at least first two COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
- Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and a reliable vehicle with the ability to provide a clear drivers abstract.
- Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment.
