Role Summary: The Supervisor of Retirement Home plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations and care delivery for residents, ensuring adherence to Carefor's established policies and procedures. This position requires collaboration with various program teams to address individual resident needs, promoting their independence and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and support the overall functioning and effectiveness of Carefor staff in resident care.
- Delegate appropriate tasks to team members while providing necessary training and follow-up, including infection control and cybersecurity protocols.
- Act as a mentor and resource for staff, offering coaching and educational opportunities to meet performance goals.
- Contribute to human resources functions, including employee relations, safety, and professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address employee issues requiring disciplinary measures.
- Assist in recruitment efforts and monitor staffing requirements to maintain adequate staffing levels.
- Engage in crisis management and provide support to staff and volunteers as needed.
- Document incidents and concerns promptly, adhering to program policies and standards.
- Oversee the admission process for new residents, ensuring compliance with established timelines.
- Influence policy development and quality standards within the organization.
- Promote continuous improvement and lead by example in quality initiatives.
- Communicate the significance of retirement facility programs within Carefor.
- Assess processes and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Manage procurement for the home, including dietary and medical supplies.
- Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with program teams and families.
- Evaluate and adjust care services based on resident assessments.
- Provide direct care as necessary, including filling in for absent staff.
- Be available for on-call duties and other assigned responsibilities.
- Supervise and instruct staff on delegated tasks.
- Oversee medication management and liaise with pharmacy services.
- Assist in staff scheduling and coverage adjustments as required.
- Coordinate and supervise on-site support services.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and Carefor policies.
- Participate in health and safety training and ensure new staff complete orientation.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario.
- Experience or education in geriatric health, dementia care, and mental health.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and best practices in retirement home care.
- Previous supervisory experience with unregulated care providers is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with HRIS systems for scheduling and attendance management is an asset.
- Ability to effectively plan, monitor, and evaluate care delivery.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying policies and care plans.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
