Cenovus Energy is seeking a highly skilled Reservoir Optimization Engineer to join our Thermal Reservoir Optimization team in Calgary. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing well and reservoir operating data to implement strategies that improve reservoir performance.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with geoscientists and production engineers to identify opportunities to enhance conformance, reduce secondary oil recovery, increase production and recovery, and minimize the impacts of bottom water and thief zones.
- Coordinate performance evaluations on assigned base pads, including production comparisons to forecasts, supervising recovery over time, and sharing knowledge of key observations and findings.
- Support the development and history match of models to understand and forecast pad performance, identifying and evaluating potential beneficial optimization opportunities such as operating strategy refinement, well placement, secondary oil recovery management, and ramp-down or blowdown strategies.
- Evaluate redrill opportunities on assigned operating pads, developing forecasts and economic evaluations to support those candidates.
- Provide feedback and validate base pad forecasts on assigned operating pads.
- Identify and advance studies and field trials to optimize performance continuously, supporting operating strategy advancement and technology progression. This includes crafting a learning plan, analyzing results, conducting lookback analysis to detail key takeaways, and transitioning to commercialization where applicable.
- Collaborate with Geology & Geophysics, Production, Reservoir Development, Drilling & Completions, Facility & Process Engineering, and Projects teams.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accredited with APEGA.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience with prior experience on commercially operating SAGD assets.
- Solid understanding of reservoir simulation is an asset (CVE Sapsim, CMG STARS or an equivalent thermal simulation software package).
- Confirmed capacity to learn new concepts quickly and work towards continuous improvement.
- Ability to process large amounts of information from different sources.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Experience programming in one or more languages is an asset (Python, SQL, R, VBA or Matlab).
