Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Early Childhood Education Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As a Program Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing childcare to infants, toddlers, and preschool children, enhancing child-based play, and encouraging and guiding appropriate behavior techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of childcare to infants, toddlers, and preschool children
  • Enhance child-based play and encourage and guide appropriate behavior techniques
  • Work under the direction of the Program Coordinator to support the overall objectives and goals of the program
  • Perform other duties as directed to support the program
Requirements
  • Knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures
  • Understanding of early childhood development and the goals and objectives of the infant, toddler, and preschool program
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, understand their needs, and differences, and encourage and motivate them
  • Good interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Interest in Early Childhood Education as a career or field of study is an asset
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • One (1) year experience providing childcare to children in a group setting
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates
Selection Process

The evaluation and assessment of candidates will be completed using the four (4) identified areas of performance: Organizational and Management Skills, Communication, Interpersonal Skills, and Knowledge and Practice, as they relate to the duties, qualifications, knowledge, and education outlined above.
