Role Summary:
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) delivers essential personal assistance and domestic services to clients and their families, adhering to the established policies, procedures, and standards of the organization. The PSW works collaboratively with healthcare professionals to address the needs of clients, promoting their independence and overall well-being.
This role qualifies for a $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario Government for all hours spent in direct client care.
Core Responsibilities- Assess and review the client's or family's living environment and care plan to identify necessary adjustments to the personal support strategy, reporting findings to the supervisor.
- Assist in the formulation of the personal support care plan under the guidance of the Personal Support Program Manager.
- Implement modifications to the care plan as directed by the Manager, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Communicate any changes in the client's or family's support needs or home conditions to the immediate supervisor or Program Manager.
- Carry out personal support duties tailored to the client's and family's requirements, including light housekeeping, meal preparation, and grocery shopping.
- Administer personal care as instructed by the Personal Support Program Manager.
- Provide basic bedside assistance as needed, under the supervision of a nurse.
- Offer respite care to clients as necessary.
- Support clients' families by providing childcare when required.
- Organize daily activities, prioritizing personal support tasks and other responsibilities under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager.
- Complete daily check-ins and necessary documentation.
- Evaluate the client's communication patterns and interpersonal skills.
- Engage with relevant healthcare team members regarding the management of the client's or family's needs.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular communication with the immediate supervisor or the Personal Support Program Manager.
- Completion of high school education.
- Preferred secondary school education.
- CCA Certification is mandatory in Nova Scotia.
- Certification in Home Support Worker (Levels I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program, or Health Care Aide is required.
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate is necessary.
- Experience in household management and working with elderly, ill individuals, or children is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with clients and families in a respectful manner.
- Strong assessment capabilities.
- Familiarity with community resources.
- Ability to work efficiently in a multidisciplinary team or independently.
- Adaptability to various social and economic environments.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Access to a personal vehicle for work purposes, along with a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- A current and original satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
- A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be necessary.
- Flexibility to work varied hours.
- Capability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Working Conditions: This position demands a meticulous approach in a dynamic setting, involving physical activities such as lifting, carrying, bending, and reaching, all of which require good body mechanics.
