Join Jacob Bros Construction and contribute to building a safer future. We are currently seeking a Safety and Compliance Specialist to oversee our projects across the lower mainland. A valid driver's license is essential for this hybrid office and field position.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develops, manages, and oversees the Health and Safety Program in partnership with the Health and Safety Manager.
  2. Provides training and guidance to field supervisors on the implementation of health and safety protocols.
  3. Establishes and nurtures strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  4. Ensures that Health and Safety plans, Safe Work Procedures, and Hazard Assessments are up-to-date; assists site leadership with proactive planning.
  5. Evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of project Health and Safety plans.
  6. Assists in incident investigations to identify root causes and collaborates with site leadership to create actionable corrective measures.
  7. Reviews the quality of field-level hazard assessments and incident reports for thoroughness and accuracy.
  8. Ensures all employees have access to appropriate safety equipment.
  9. Conducts safety orientations for new hires and provides internal Health & Safety training as necessary.
  10. Identifies training needs, makes recommendations to Safety Committees, and coordinates training sessions.
  11. Performs internal audits, hazard assessments, and emergency preparedness planning.
  12. Manages company compliance for maintaining COR Certification.
  13. Maintains a WHMIS Program, including current MSDS and staff training.
  14. Monitors and advises on changes in legislation and technical standards related to Health and Safety.
  15. Records and reports all project and corporate statistics on a monthly basis.
  16. Schedules, participates in, and documents JOH&S meeting minutes.
Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a construction safety role; CSO or NSCO certifications are advantageous.
  2. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in skilled trades and/or experience in civil and building construction.
  3. Familiarity with Procore is a significant advantage.
  4. In-depth knowledge of OH&S regulations in British Columbia.
  5. Experience in conducting incident investigations and causal analysis.
  6. Strong technical understanding of common construction practices, techniques, and equipment.
  7. Valid First Aid certification (OFA 2 minimum) and CPR certification required.
  8. Additional training in Fall Protection, Rescue/Confined Spaces, and operation of Bobcat/mobile equipment is beneficial.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse individuals.
  10. Proficient in computer applications, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  11. Training in human relations (e.g., Conflict Resolution) is preferred; ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
  12. Must possess and maintain a valid provincial driver's license and driver's abstract.
  13. Successful completion of a security clearance process is required.
