The Role

In the capacity of Drama Intern, you will assist our team of instructors in delivering engaging musical theatre programs and camps for youth aged 3 to 19 years. These initiatives are organized by the Performing Arts division within the Community Services department. The role involves a week of preparation followed by five weeks of drama camps.

Key responsibilities may include supporting instructors in teaching music, choreography, facilitating improv activities, and executing any additional tasks assigned by the Lead Instructor. Active involvement in the daily operations of the camps is essential. You will also assist in compiling final reports at the conclusion of the camps, along with some light administrative tasks.

Additional duties may encompass:

• Assisting with the setup and dismantling of equipment such as cameras, computers, monitors, sound systems, and pianos.

• Setting up virtual classes on Zoom and monitoring the session for absent students wishing to participate online.

• Helping with the arrangement and rearrangement of chairs between classes.

• Supporting the sign-in process.

• Aiding in classroom demonstrations as needed.

• Acting as a liaison between instructors and administrative staff.

• Assisting with class planning, execution, and weekly reporting.

Qualifications


• Ideal candidates should possess substantial experience in the performing arts sector.

• Experience working with youth is highly valued.

• We are looking for team-oriented individuals with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Additionally:

• Preference will be given to students pursuing post-secondary education in Musical Theatre, Acting, Music, or Education.

• Applicants with experience in dance, youth engagement, and significant exposure to Musical Theatre are encouraged to apply.

• A Class 5 Driver's license is considered an asset.

Work Schedule

Up to 15 hours per week, including Saturdays and some evenings. The weekly hours may vary based on operational needs and will be scheduled in advance whenever feasible.

Compensation

$20.65 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

• The successful candidate will be required to obtain a clear vulnerable sector police information check.
