The Opportunity
The Community Services team is seeking to hire a Public Art Associate & Registrar to administer, coordinate and oversee public art projects within the City of St. Albert’s Public Art program including procurement, maintenance and access. This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to City of St. Albert policy as well as Provincial and Federal Legislation when developing plans, administering, and implementing Public Art projects.
This position works with City of St. Albert staff, artists, contractors and vendors to facilitate the construction, installation, and maintenance of public artwork; serves as liaison between City departments, staff and the public for St. Albert public art projects; and performs related duties as assigned. The Public Art Associate & Registrar will assist with collection assessment, monitoring, inventory, and reporting, and will provide assistance with exhibition installation/removal and unveilings as needed.
The Public Art Associate & Registrar will be responsible for the management of the Public Art Collection, including collection assessment, maintenance, monitoring, inventory, and reporting, and will coordinate artwork installation, removal and unveilings as needed.
The incumbent processes new and existing artworks including object database entry, acquisition and deaccession and monitors and documents the condition of new and existing works of art ensuring regular site visits to complete or supervise the completion of condition reports and photo documentation as needed.
This position assists with implementing, updating and maintaining the collection database and collection records and assists with access to the Collection including loans management, exhibition tour management, exhibition installation, location control, transportation, packing and logistics, indemnity and insurance.
**Qualifications**:
- Degree in Fine arts (BFA or MFA in Visual Arts), Museum or Heritage Conservation or a related field and 3 years experience (or equivalence of a diploma and 5 years)
- Experience will be in the field of visual arts including working with artists, tenders, Expressions of Interest, Call for Proposals, community engagement and project management.
- Knowledge of the visual arts mediums and practice, artwork conservation, familiarity with the visual arts community and public art programming.
- Proven ability to select, supervise and monitor consultants and contractors.
- Experience with developing and monitoring budgets for both small and large projects, preferably in the areas of public art and/or engineering and project management.
- Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite and related databases/software.
- Experience with permanent and temporary public art projects is preferred and would be considered an asset.
- A valid Class 5 Drivers License and a personal vehicle for work use is required.
Hours of Work
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks). There is a requirement for a flexible work schedule that allows for evening and weekend commitments, and occasional overtime.
Compensation
$62,959 - $77,487 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.
