Excavation Specialist

NorLand Limited is a leading civil contractor with a proven track record of successfully completing transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Western Canada. We are currently seeking an experienced Excavation Specialist to join our team for exciting infrastructure projects in the Lower Mainland area of BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and respectful manner at all times on NorLand job sites
  • Set a high standard for quality of work that helps to elevate the skills of the rest of the team
  • Work with Field Supervisors and Crew to perform various tasks including bulk and detailed excavations, trenching, backfill, and servicing utility installations
  • Ensure effective communication at all times with the ground field crew
  • Ability to report on excavation progress and any potential issues as they arise to Field Supervisors
  • Perform daily pre-inspection machinery safety checks and service
  • Attend and be an active participant in all safety meetings

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience required on 20-30 ton size excavators
  • Primary experience is on an excavator, but ability to operate backhoe, dozer, and/or loader is an asset
  • Achieves maximum production with full attention to crew safety and the prevention of incidents
  • Understands and completes daily equipment service requirements and inspection log
  • Participates in safe work planning and communicates effectively
  • Has experience with various shoring types and excavations
  • Has experience working with pipe crews and is comfortable working in tight urban environments and near traffic
  • Has experience digging around live utilities
  • Can cut slope, trench, or grade to finish tolerance
  • Experience with GPS systems is an asset
  • Has a valid driver's license
  • Ability to identify mechanical/safety issues with equipment

Expected hourly rate starts at $45.00 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate's experience).
