Job Title: Environmental Field Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Field Technician to join our Contaminated Lands department in Vancouver. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting fieldwork related to monitoring, investigating, remediating, and reclaiming contaminated sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fieldwork related to environmental site investigations, including soil and groundwater sampling.
  • Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to yourself, clients, employees, and the public.
  • Plan and conduct soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water sampling using various techniques.
  • Oversee soil hydro-excavation and drilling contractors, including soil classifications and groundwater monitoring well installation.
  • Work with contractors to oversee test pitting, excavation, surveying, utility locating work.
  • Oversee remedial contractors, including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking, and progress reporting.
  • Use appropriate technology and equipment to collect field data.
  • Compile, analyze, and review data to develop a conceptual model of site characteristics and interpret the nature and extent of contamination.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring during construction to document adherence to environmental protection measures.
  • Travel for fieldwork.
  • Apply and interpret results for quality and accuracy of the end product.
  • Prepare and coordinate project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for field programs.
  • Filing and managing all project-related field notes, including some data entry and assistance with report preparation.
  • Perform and record work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
  • A completed college diploma or university degree specializing in environmental science or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling is a requirement.
  • More than 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Logical thinking and ability to bring practical solutions to field challenges.
  • Attention to detail in the completion of project-critical documentation.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to schedule multiple tasks within set deadlines for various stages of projects, including field work and reporting.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety-conscious attitude.
  • Active enjoyment of outdoors, in all seasons and weather.
  • Have a valid BC drivers license.
