Fleet Maintenance Role at Vancouver Airport Authority

As a Heavy Duty Equipment Specialist at the Vancouver Airport Authority, you will play a vital part in ensuring the continued success and future vision of our organization. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and repair mobile and portable equipment, performing general diagnostics, mechanical overhauls, and maintenance work on a wide variety of specialized and heavy-duty equipment. This includes fire trucks, winter runway trucks, sweepers, chemical application vehicles, mowers, and trucks with diesel and gas engines, along with various specialized attachments. You will be part of a team of technicians, apprentices, and planners who organize, plan, and perform maintenance on an inventory of over 350 pieces of unique response and heavy equipment designed specifically for the airport environment. Our fleet features some of the most advanced heavy-duty equipment available in an airport setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair summer operations vehicles and equipment, including mowers, backhoes, excavators, ancillary attachments, and road maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain and repair winter operations vehicles and equipment for snow and ice control.
  • Plan, schedule, and organize work areas and facilities.
  • Lead activities and share knowledge with assigned apprentices.

Requirements:
  • Three years' recent, related experience, supplemented by the completion of a Red Seal or BC Trade Qualification in Truck or Transport Mechanic (TTM) or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (HDET).
  • Valid BC driver's license (Class 1 preferred, minimum Class 3 with air brake endorsement).

Work Schedule:
The shift schedule is primarily dayshift, with a requirement for 24/7 operations during winter. As an employee on a shifted work schedule, you may be eligible for shift and weekend premiums. You will be provided with a full set of top-quality tools and a generous allocation of work clothing.
