Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Lifeguard to join our team in various locations across Ottawa. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for administering policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the pool, as well as performing rescues and first aid necessary for the preservation of life in a team setting.

Education and Experience:

Minimum age requirement is 15 years of age. You must possess a current National Lifeguard Pool certificate, Lifesaving Instructor certificate, Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates, and Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate. AODA Accessibility/IASR Training is also required.

Knowledge:

  • City of Ottawa and Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services departmental policies, guidelines, and directives
  • City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to handle the stress of an emergency situation
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Reliable

Language Requirement:

Varying language requirements apply, with some positions requiring English only, French only, or bilingual competencies. Please note that language requirements may vary depending on the location.

Police Record Check:

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
