Unit Overview

The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine program (HRLMP) is a collaborative initiative supported by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare. This program is dedicated to transformation and advancement through education, service, and research, aiming to integrate the highest quality scientific practices into healthcare for the community's benefit, while also engaging in the clinical application and interpretation of scientific findings.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Special Hematology Manager or their delegate, the Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) plays a crucial role in executing Hematology tests and procedures in alignment with HRLMP's established policies and protocols. Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to: Hematology morphology analysis, bedside bone marrow preparation, special staining techniques, and cell marker identification utilizing flow cytometry technology. The MLT is expected to proficiently operate and maintain laboratory instruments, execute quality control and assurance protocols, engage in the adoption of new methodologies and evaluations, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development. Furthermore, the MLT is expected to interact courteously and tactfully with colleagues, patients, the public, and other healthcare personnel. Additional responsibilities may include teaching, method evaluation, technical documentation, quality assurance initiatives, and safety compliance as needed.

Work Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

1. Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
2. Successful completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist program
3. Proven experience and knowledge in Hematology morphology
4. Experience with flow cytometry and special staining techniques, as well as knowledge of bedside marrow preparation methods
5. Proficient computer skills in Order Entry, Data Entry, and Reporting
6. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
7. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and enhancing personal competence, along with contributing to the education and development of students and colleagues
