Opportunity Overview:

Become a vital part of our healthcare community in Central Alberta. As a casual pharmacist within the Central Zone South, you will work collaboratively with clients, physicians, and an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care. The Central Zone South Pharmacy serves 15 rural hospitals and care facilities, providing a diverse range of services including acute care, surgical, palliative, and continuing care. This role primarily operates from the Lacombe Hospital, which focuses on rural general medicine and includes 72 continuing care beds along with an active emergency department. You will also provide remote coverage to various sites within Central Zone South, with the specific locations to be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. Comprehensive training will be provided at each site to ensure a smooth transition into your role. Our multidisciplinary environment fosters collaboration, making pharmacists integral members of the healthcare team across all facilities in Central Zone South. Supported by a dedicated team of pharmacy technicians and assistants, you will have the opportunity to engage with patients and contribute to a thriving healthcare community in Central Alberta.

Position Responsibilities:

As a Pharmacist I, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services.
  • Managing medication therapy for patients, both at the initial stage and throughout their treatment.
  • Providing assessment, intervention, and resolution of potential or actual drug-related issues.
  • Overseeing activities related to compounding and packaging of medications.

Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
  • Active registration or eligibility for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Candidates should also have:

  • Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP). Candidates without APA will be expected to obtain it within six months of starting in this role.
  • Experience in a hospital setting or direct patient care, providing comprehensive medication management services.
  • Recent experience as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Familiarity with computerized medication order entry and various drug distribution systems, such as unit dose.

  • Self-directed learning and commitment to continuing education.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in a rural hospital setting is considered an asset.
