Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team at Alterna Savings. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the prompt and accurate processing and payment of vendor invoices and employee expense claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vendor Invoice and Expense Claim Processing
    • Process and pay incoming vendor invoices and employee expense claims in a timely fashion.
    • Ensure adherence to internal controls and corporate policies.
    • Provide guidance and support to team members as needed.
  • Liaison between Suppliers and Internal Clients
    • Research and respond to supplier inquiries in a timely and courteous manner.
    • Apply judgment and analysis to resolve issues and ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Training and Development
    • Provide training and guidance to new team members.
    • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform general ledger integrity process and ensure accurate and timely reconciliations.
    • Support the Senior Accounts Payable Representative in year-end accruals.
    • Participate in finance operations and corporate projects.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • University degree or college diploma in Accounting or equivalent experience.
    • Previous work experience in a financial institution is an asset.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Strong general knowledge of Accounting, specifically as it relates to Accounts Payables and Accruals.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
    • Knowledge of Sage 300 (including AP and EFT modules) or other ERP is a definite asset.
  • Competencies
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Result-oriented with an ability to work under pressure.
    • Ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision.
