The Regional Quality Control Supervisor is accountable to the National Quality Program Manager while receiving daily operational directives from the Regional Construction Manager. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effective execution of the Babcock & Wilcox Quality Program within the designated region, fulfilling all necessary customer, jurisdictional, and regulatory obligations. In addition to conducting pre-job planning, on-site quality oversight, and inspections, the Regional Quality Control Supervisor guarantees that all job sites under their purview are equipped with skilled and qualified inspectors. This position may also require travel to other regions for on-site quality supervision and inspections as needed. During intervals between site projects, this role will assist the National Quality Program Manager with various initiatives aimed at supporting continuous improvement goals.

Administration of the Quality Program
  • Ensures the effective implementation of the Babcock & Wilcox Quality Program within the assigned region, including field site operations.
  • Maintains adequate quality control staffing levels across field sites.
  • Oversees quality control activities on field sites, including third-party non-destructive examinations, heat treatment, and inspections.
  • In instances where the quality control scope is limited and does not necessitate additional quality control personnel, the Regional Quality Control Supervisor will undertake all responsibilities within the Quality Program. This includes reviewing receiving documents, conducting visual inspections, and compiling and maintaining all quality control documentation.
  • Collaborates with local authorized inspection agencies, customers, Babcock & Wilcox field personnel, and head office support staff to ensure comprehensive implementation of all code, customer, and Babcock & Wilcox requirements.
  • Selects appropriate welding procedures tailored to specific applications.
Proposal Specifications
  • Reviews customer specification requirements and provides constructive feedback to the proposal manager.
  • Assesses proposed scope against Babcock & Wilcox standards, provincial legislation, and applicable codes.
Development and Maintenance of Quality Control Inspection Resources
  • Responsible for recruiting quality control personnel as necessary, managing employee requisitions, and maintaining the region's quality control inspector resource list for future opportunities. The successful candidate will also coordinate third-party non-destructive examination services and other specialized process support at field sites.
  • Ensures that quality control resources possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to effectively perform their duties.
Responsibilities Beyond the Assigned Region
  • When workload decreases within the assigned region, additional responsibilities in other Canadian regions may be assigned. This includes supporting quality control teams in other regions on job sites, performing quality control inspections, or fulfilling quality control lead roles. Travel may be required.
Commitment to Continuous Improvement
  • In conjunction with implementing Babcock & Wilcox's non-conformance and corrective action programs, this individual will engage in conducting audits, root cause investigations, and other continuous improvement initiatives as directed by the Quality Program Manager.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary, within the scope of the Regional Quality Control Supervisor position.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible quality control experience on industrial job sites, preferably with exposure to boilers, piping, pressure tanks/vessels, and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience supervising inspection activities on a range of industrial job sites.
  • Ability to select appropriate welding processes/procedures based on materials, thicknesses, and other specific requirements.
  • Strong understanding of various ASME and CSA Codes, with the ability to interpret and apply requirements from Provincial Regulations and industry standards.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a technical diploma.
  • Minimum CSA Level I Inspector certification, with a willingness to pursue Level II or III.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Position may be home-based or within an office setting, depending on the employee's provincial location.
