Lead Structural Engineer for Bridge Projects

Job Overview
Arcadis is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to enhance our Bridge division in Canada. Our focus is on delivering significant bridge and structural design and rehabilitation projects across the country. In this pivotal role, you will utilize your extensive knowledge in bridge engineering and construction to manage and execute intricate bridge projects from start to finish. You will work closely with a variety of clients in both public and private sectors, overseeing multidisciplinary teams throughout the planning, design, and construction stages. This position presents an opportunity to engage with some of the most demanding infrastructure projects in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:- Engineering Leadership and Project Delivery
- Direct the complete lifecycle of bridge projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
- Guide and support engineering teams, promoting a cooperative atmosphere and optimizing team capabilities.
- Conduct advanced engineering calculations, analyses, and designs, adhering to rigorous quality benchmarks and industry standards.
- Draft and evaluate comprehensive engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and reports.
- Offer technical support during construction phases, including the review of contractor submissions and on-site assistance.
- Project Oversight and Client Engagement
- Create and implement detailed project plans, encompassing budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
- Establish and nurture strong client relationships, proactively addressing their needs.
- Lead project initiatives, crafting successful proposals and assembling effective project teams.
- Manage financial aspects and reporting to ensure project profitability.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to provide integrated project solutions.
- Bridge Evaluation and Analysis
- Perform comprehensive inspections of existing bridges, identifying issues and recommending suitable rehabilitation or replacement strategies.
- Supervise inspection teams, coordinating specialized sub-consultants and developing thorough inspection reports.
- Conduct life cycle cost analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Implement effective quality assurance processes to reduce errors and defects.
- Provide technical guidance to design and drafting teams.
- Post-graduate degree in Structural Engineering with a specialization in bridge engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in bridge engineering, including inspection, analysis, load-rating, design, and construction. Experience in seismic analysis and design is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia.
- Thorough understanding of Canadian bridge design codes and standards, including CSA S6, and familiarity with AT, ON MOT, and BC MOTI standards.
- Proficient in 3D modeling and analysis software, such as CSI Bridge or MIDAS Civil.
- Excellent technical report writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
