Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in the Regional Pharmacy Program at Prairie Mountain Health, providing technical support to the Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacist team. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drug Distribution and Dispensing: Procure, store, prepare, compound, package, maintain, issue, and distribute drugs, chemicals, and supplies in accordance with policy, directives, and procedures.
  • Prescription Review: Review prescriptions for compliance with federal and provincial law.
  • Quality Control: Perform a final check on prepared drugs before dispensing, as approved by a pharmacist manager.
  • Dispensing: Dispense drugs under the approval of a pharmacist.
  • Problem Identification: Identify drug-related problems that require referral to a pharmacist.
  • Patient Education: Provide instructions to patients on the operation of defined medical devices.
  • Prescription Refills: Obtain instructions from practitioners for refilling active prescriptions without change.
  • External Dispensing: Perform tasks at external dispensing sites.
  • Training and Development: Precept and train Pharmacy Technicians-in-training, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician students, Pharmacy Assistants, and pharmacy interns.
  • Continuing Education: Maintain current competencies and provide records of continuing education requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, and quality control activities.
  • Database Management: Assist with the collection of required information and maintenance of databases.
  • Health and Safety: Maintain current knowledge of Hospital Disaster and Contingency Plans and WHMIS regulations.
  • Adherence to Policies: Adhere to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent experience.
  • Registration with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
