The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Based Mental Health Clinician to join our team at IWK Health. As a key member of our SchoolsPlus team, you will work closely with children, youth, families, and school staff to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager for IWK School Mental Health Services, you will be responsible for providing individual, family, and group therapies, referrals to Mental Health and Addictions Services, consultation to school staff, and input into programming and evaluation research.

With a focus on providing early identification and intervention for mental health and addictions issues, you will practice the principles and philosophy of CAPA (Choice and Partnership Approach) in all areas of position responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to children, youth, families, and school staff
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Collaborate with school staff to build capacity and provide consultation
  • Participate in evaluation research and contribute to program development
  • Work closely with Mental Health and Addictions Services to provide referrals and support
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Social Work required
  • Registered or eligible to be registered/licensed with NSCSW, required
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker working in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health is required
  • Demonstrated ability to complete mental health assessments using DSM formulations, required
  • Demonstrated experience integrating various psychotherapeutic approaches, required
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and insurance required
