Job Summary

The Supportive Living Worker is a vital member of our team, responsible for empowering and supporting individuals with disabilities to engage in life skills, daily activities, and social engagements. This role requires a compassionate and skilled individual who can assist participants to live successfully in their homes, ensuring their physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist participants with daily living activities, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household management.
  • Support individuals to develop life skills, including communication, social interaction, and community participation.
  • Collaborate with participants to create personalized plans that promote independence and self-advocacy.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to individuals with challenging behaviors, using evidence-based strategies to de-escalate situations.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive support and services are provided to participants.

Requirements

  • Certificate in a related human/social service field and/or at least one year of recent experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Previous experience working with people with dual diagnosis and challenging behaviors is an asset.
  • Essential to display a proven ability to work with challenging behaviors calmly and effectively.
  • Experienced with various lifts, feeding protocols, toileting protocols, and basic adaptive sign language is an asset.
  • Must display an understanding and ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Class 5 license within 6 months.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Clear, current Criminal Record Check.
  • Food Safe Certification.
  • Safety-Care Training (Mandt and NVCI acceptable).
  • Use of own safe, reliable vehicle to transport participants.
