Assistant Project Manager

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the management and execution of various contracts related to track, infrastructure, and right-of-way activities in Western Canada. This role involves working closely with technical experts and on-site personnel to manage all aspects of contract administration, including project requirements, safety culture, quality control, and internal reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and prepare scope of work to fulfill contract requirements
- Develop and monitor project schedules, including critical path calculation and resource allocation
- Prepare and verify work plans and methodologies, including obtaining necessary permits and coordinating tasks between stakeholders
- Manage project activities based on budgetary and contract requirements
- Assist in procuring materials, equipment, and services, and organizing required training for reporting personnel
- Prepare and submit supporting reports and documents as per project requirements
- Attend internal meetings, client meetings, and other stakeholder meetings
- Monitor and evaluate performance of on-site employees and subcontractors
- Develop required documentation for project-related invoices
- Investigate and report issues arising during project stages
- Prepare and submit RFIs, change order requests, and other contract change management documentation
- Prepare and analyze cost, budget, production, and other reports as requested by the management team
- Monitor and provide guidance to project coordinators and other staff
- Actively engage and promote safety culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in a related field, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, contract management, or project management
- Minimum three years of related project or contract management experience in heavy construction or railway environment
- Proficiency with common business and construction software, such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Hard Dollar, or JD Edwards
- Previous supervisory or management position is a strong asset
- P.Eng designation or equivalent is an asset
- PMP designation or equivalent is an asset
- Demonstrated project management experience in project accounting, project controls, procurement, contract administration, safety, and quality control
Working Conditions
- Occasional weekend or night work may be required
- Occasional exposure to outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions may be required
- Majority of field work is on and around live track (trains)
- Work may be in urban, rural, or isolated areas
