About the Role

The Aberdeen Hospital is actively seeking locum Internal Medicine general internists to become part of a dedicated team that offers 24/7 inpatient consultation and on-call shifts. Full-time permanent positions are also available. This role includes participation in the Locum Incentive Program.

Locum Physicians must hold a valid license from the CPSNS or be eligible for licensure.

Locum Incentive Eligibility for Specialists

Approval from the Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) via Medical Services Insurance (MSI) may be requested if any Core Specialty Service approved for 24/7/365 coverage requires more than a 1 in 4 call schedule due to:

  • Unscheduled leave of a physician in any approved position due to illness or unforeseen events impacting clinical service delivery
  • Approved vacant specialist positions lasting six months or longer
  • Other specialty services critical to health system function, as recommended by the VP Medicine
  • Specialty services provided at the QEII are not eligible for the locum program
Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing hospital coverage, including on-call duties
  • Office coverage as necessary

Compensation for Locum Physicians:

  • Minimum daily income guarantee of $1200/day, with an additional subsidy of up to $400/day (or ICU funding where applicable)
  • Consultation with MSI to estimate and determine the additional subsidy amount based on contract rates and FFS billings
  • Option to bill FFS, with all criteria applying except for the income guarantee and additional subsidy
  • Per Diem of $175/day, plus mileage and bridge tolls as per locum program guidelines
  • Coverage for CPSNS licensing fees (if applicable)
  • Flight costs covered up to a maximum of $1000 (receipts required)
  • 100% coverage of accommodations
  • $100 per hour for drive time, up to a maximum of $300 each way

Qualifications
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)
  • Preference for Internal Medicine with a Gastroenterology subspecialty or special interest
