Pathology Assistant II Job Description

Humber River Health is seeking a highly skilled Pathology Assistant II to join our dynamic Laboratory Services team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in delivering timely and accurate test results, improving patient outcomes, and contributing to our mission of providing exceptional healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform gross examination of surgical pathology specimens, including dissection and description, for histological examination by a Pathologist.
  • Assist Pathologists in performing human postmortem examinations (autopsies) and processing quick sections as required.
  • Ensure special procedures and protocols are followed by staff involved in specimen procurement.
  • Assist in the organization and coordination of anatomic pathology lectures and administrative maintenance of anatomic/surgical pathology protocols, reports, and data.
  • Manage the Morgue and perform administrative, budgetary, supervisory, teaching, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Candidate for or holding a Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) certification is an asset.
  • Masters of Science degree in a Pathologist Assistant Program is an asset.
  • Experience as a Pathology Assistant is preferred.
  • Experience in adult and neonatal autopsy is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, dissection techniques, and gross pathology in normal and disease states is required.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline-free record is required.
