Job Title: Health Care Assistant Instructor

We are seeking a qualified Health Care Assistant Instructor to join our team at North Island College. As a Sessional Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching the Health Care Assistant Certificate program to a diverse group of students.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering instruction in the Health Care Assistant Certificate program. This will include teaching practice courses, such as HCA 140, HCA 145, and HCA 150, and implementing creative strategies to stimulate learning. The instructor will also be responsible for evaluating student progress, maintaining records, and submitting grades in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver instruction in the Health Care Assistant Certificate program
  • Teach practice courses, such as HCA 140, HCA 145, and HCA 150
  • Implement creative strategies to stimulate learning
  • Evaluate student progress and maintain records
  • Submit grades in a timely manner
Requirements:
  • Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree
  • Two years' experience teaching adults, preferably at the postsecondary level
  • Work experience in gerontics
  • Extensive experience working with Older Adults
  • Provincial Instructor diploma preferred
  • Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture
  • Experience with or interest in international HCA education
  • Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record)
  • CPR Level HCP required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning within a distributed teaching-learning environment and classroom
  • Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours, support cooperative and effective working relationships, and contribute to shared team goals
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Experience with and willingness to learn, online learning management systems, i.e. D2L Brightspace, Hyflex
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications, the internet, and with MS Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
  • Valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
