Job Overview

Position Title: Human Resources Consultant

Department: People and Culture

Employment Type: Continuous (Regular Full-Time)

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (35 hour work week)

Compensation: Pay Band 5 ($105,774.73 to $124,441.96)

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Consultant serves as a strategic partner, providing expert guidance to a diverse range of clients on HR practices and trends that align with organizational goals. This role involves advising on employee and labor relations, job evaluation, organizational design, performance management, and the interpretation of collective agreements and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

The HR Consultant plays a vital role in supporting operational leaders in matters related to people and culture. With a focus on a designated client portfolio, the consultant fosters a consultative and proactive approach to problem-solving, enabling operational groups to achieve their business objectives.

Employee and Labor Relations:

  • Addressing and resolving employee and labor relations challenges while considering collective agreements, internal policies, and applicable legislation.
  • Collaborating with leaders to promote optimal employee outcomes and strengthen workplace relationships.
  • Providing insights on performance management and attendance improvement strategies.
  • Conducting investigations and managing grievance procedures in partnership with leadership.
  • Facilitating collective bargaining processes and enhancing the capabilities of people leaders through consultation.

Job Evaluation and Organizational Design:

  • Advising leaders on changes to positions and organizational structure based on job evaluation and compensation principles.
  • Participating in job evaluation committees and contributing to workforce planning initiatives.

Process Improvement:

The HR Consultant leads and engages in the development and implementation of HR systems and processes. This may include responding to changes in legislation or service delivery requirements, and striving for continuous improvement in HR service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Human Resources or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in employee and labor relations, job evaluation, and organizational design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Additional education in Human Resources or a related field.
