Manager of Signals and Communications for Construction Projects

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The individual in this role will provide expert guidance and leadership to teams responsible for the installation and upkeep of signals and communications systems, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements to facilitate the safe operation of trains across the territory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead safety initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety.
  2. Evaluate the performance of construction services and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  3. Develop and enforce policies, processes, and procedures aimed at enhancing productivity and operational efficiency.
  4. Identify and propose innovative work methodologies, new processes, and best practices.
  5. Oversee the completion and documentation of construction projects.
  6. Engage with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and facilitate new installations.
  7. Manage project execution within established budgetary constraints.
  8. Provide coaching and mentorship to direct reports to enhance their performance and identify development opportunities.
  9. Adjust the integrated plan based on demand fluctuations and scheduling changes.
  10. Effectively utilize the collective agreement for optimal work management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
  3. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an Associate's degree in Electronics is preferred.
  4. A minimum of 5 years of experience in railroad signal construction and maintenance.
  5. Comprehensive understanding of railroad signal principles and equipment, with a commitment to safety leadership.
  6. Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements.
  7. Knowledge of signal standards and relevant federal regulations.
  8. Proven ability in planning, prioritizing, problem-solving, and executing plans effectively.
  9. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  10. Ability to respond to emergency situations with a sense of urgency.
  11. Willingness to travel frequently and stay overnight as required.
  12. Commitment to regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  13. Potential requirement to obtain certification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
