Position Overview:

The Woodlawn High School is dedicated to fostering an inclusive educational environment for all students. We are seeking a Mi'kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Worker who will play a vital role in enhancing the academic success and overall well-being of Mi'kmaw and other Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to Indigenous students, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to thrive academically.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to implement initiatives that promote student achievement among Indigenous youth.
  • Develop and execute strategies that empower students to reach their full potential.
  • Establish effective communication channels between school staff, Indigenous students, and their families.
  • Work closely with the Regional Coordinator of Indigenous Education/Services to facilitate student success.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting annual salary for this position is $41,268.31, distributed over 12 months for a 10-month academic year. Compensation is structured on a six-step scale, with annual increases as per the Collective Agreement.

Work Schedule:

This role requires a commitment of seven hours per day, totaling 35 hours per week, from Monday to Friday.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in social sciences or Social Work, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and communities, focusing on their strengths and capabilities.
  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in providing support to youth.
  • Experience in case management and record-keeping is considered an asset.
