Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Model Development Specialist to join our team at the Royal Bank of Canada. As a key member of our Group Risk Management team, you will be responsible for assisting in the development, monitoring, and maintenance of predictive risk models that support our retail and small business credit strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of predictive risk models that support credit decisions in portfolio management and credit strategies, including adjudication, account management, and collection.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues raised by independent validation, internal audit, and ongoing model monitoring.
  • Assist with documentation related to existing models, including annual assessments and re-validations, model updates, and deep dives.
  • Monitor existing models, identify potential weaknesses and limitations, and conduct deep dives as necessary.
  • Explore and leverage best practices in model development and management.
  • Provide input into decision-making processes on technical details related to modeling solutions, development, ongoing management, and deployment of models.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or machine learning.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Experience or understanding of distributed computing (Hadoop and Spark) and relational databases (Teradata, SQLite, MySQL, and similar).
  • Ability to extract, transform, and load processes with various data types.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis on large volumes of data and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Strong MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in building statistical and algorithmic models with complex and large datasets, including supervised statistical learning, clustering, time-series analysis, experimental design (A/B testing), data visualization, and deep learning.
  • Knowledge of design, development, and implementation utilizing current analytics technologies and architecture, as well as data warehouse concepts and methodologies.
  • Relational database concepts and design experience.
  • Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge.
