Position Overview:

The University of Ottawa is seeking to appoint a regular tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Criminology. The successful candidate will specialize in Critical Surveillance and Security Studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in research activities and produce refereed publications.
  • Deliver courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in criminology, focusing on methods and theoretical frameworks.
  • Supervise graduate students in their academic pursuits.
  • Participate actively in the educational and administrative functions of the department and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as outlined in the collective agreement.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Criminology, Sociology, Political Science, Human Geography, Communications, or a related discipline, with a focus on surveillance and security.
  • Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching and research.
  • Fluency in French is required at the time of hiring.

Bilingualism Requirement:

All faculty members within the Faculty of Social Sciences must exhibit active bilingualism prior to being granted tenure. The successful candidate will primarily teach in French.

Terms of Employment:

This is a tenure-track position. The salary scale for an Assistant Professor begins at $89,622.
