About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled News Director to lead our Barrie News Team. As a key member of our media organization, you will be responsible for managing news operations, providing editorial leadership, and overseeing the production of high-quality news content.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage news operations, including staff development, training, and talent recruitment.
  • Provide editorial leadership, defining the direction, tone, and presentation of news content on all platforms.
  • Executive Producer of all CTV2 Barrie News, responsible for assigning resources, contributing to content, and show production.
  • Oversee CTV2 Barrie News website and social media properties, ensuring a strong online presence.
  • Communicate effectively with production team, ensuring seamless collaboration and coordination.
  • Coordinate news gathering requirements in conjunction with CTV Network and other media platforms.
  • Manage legal issues and CRTC complaints, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Help strengthen relationships with key community members, fostering a positive reputation for our media organization.
  • Develop and implement a digital strategy for news properties, staying ahead of industry trends.
Critical Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Journalism, Broadcasting, or Media Production, or equivalent, and at least 5 years' experience in a newsroom.
  • Excellent knowledge of local news and current affairs, with a proven track record of originating coverage on developing news stories and features.
  • Proven sound editorial judgment, with a minimum of 3 years' field experience in television journalism.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a producer, with a strong understanding of production processes and workflows.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a leadership role in a newsroom environment, with a demonstrated record of success supervising staff.
  • Strong team leader with effective people and motivational skills, able to motivate and inspire team members to achieve excellence.
  • Practical working knowledge of Microsoft Office and iNEWS, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and systems.
