YOUR ROLE

As a Financial Operations Manager, you will play a crucial role within the local leadership team, ensuring the effective achievement of the branch's objectives and strategic vision. Your primary responsibility will be to uphold a robust accounting framework, alongside a comprehensive suite of controls and budgets aimed at minimizing risks and ensuring the precision of the branch's financial reporting. You will collaborate closely with both the central office and local management teams to guarantee prompt and precise financial disclosures in accordance with applicable accounting standards. Additionally, you will engage with the Internal Audit team to uphold effective internal controls over financial reporting for branch operations. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, you will also oversee a team of accounting professionals at the branch level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (% of Time)

Ensure timely and precise financial and accounting operations while adhering to accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory obligations. (40%)

  • Month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Preparation and review of financial statements
  • Support for internal and external audits
  • Management of expenses, costs, and capital expenditures
  • Creation, monitoring, and analysis of key performance indicators

Act as a strategic partner to the Branch Manager and Leadership Team by working collaboratively to comprehend operational challenges and objectives, utilizing financial insights to enhance processes and drive efficiencies. Serve as a trusted advisor, offering insights and recommendations to facilitate data-driven decision-making and optimize resource allocation. Provide project support to local and central management teams as required to assist with key initiatives. (10%)

Conduct thorough financial analyses proactively to aid decision-making and pinpoint areas for profitability enhancement and process improvement. Lead cross-departmental initiatives to refine branch operations, identifying opportunities for automation and enhancements to boost productivity and reduce expenses. (10%)

Inspire, guide, and manage team members through effective performance management strategies, including setting clear expectations and goals, recognizing achievements, and addressing performance issues. Mentor and develop employees based on their individual strengths and interests, encouraging them to take ownership of their career paths and performance. Delegate responsibilities while expecting accountability and regular feedback. Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration among department members and the broader organization. (10%)

Collaborate with department heads and the central office to develop budgets and forecasts, analyzing variances and providing recommendations to meet financial objectives. (10%)

Continuously enhance accounting systems and processes through process improvements to achieve greater efficiency and accuracy in reporting. (5%)

Manage government audit processes as necessary, typically related to payroll and tax compliance. (5%)

Oversee the management of fixed assets, including capital projects, acquisitions, and disposals. Work with the management team to financially justify and monitor all project expenditures, coordinating the initiation and closure of projects with the central office. (5%)

Administer the payroll process, including compliance reporting. This encompasses annual reporting, payroll adjustments, and reconciliations, as well as managing worker compensation and tax reporting for multiple jurisdictions. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

If you possess the skills outlined above, you are well-suited for this role. Additional qualifications that would be beneficial include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline is essential.
  • A solid grasp of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and financial analysis methodologies. Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting is required.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, with a preference for 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with compliance in internal and external audits.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced skills in Excel.
  • Experience with SAP/BPC/SAC is highly advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop team members and delegate effectively. Capable of providing timely guidance and feedback to assist staff in achieving their objectives.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Proven track record of engaging with details when necessary.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a history of effectively addressing financial and operational challenges. Experience in identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in team management and leading cross-functional projects. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the capacity to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and derive meaningful insights. Experience in conducting financial analysis and performance measurement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts clearly and succinctly. Experience in presenting financial information to diverse audiences, including executives and non-financial stakeholders.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require domestic and international travel up to 20% of the time.
