Job Summary

Simpson Strong-Tie Canada, Limited is seeking a highly skilled Branch Controller to join our team. As a key member of our local management team, you will play a critical role in the successful realization of our branch's goals and strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee timely and accurate finance and accounting activities while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive system of accounting records, controls, and budgets to mitigate risk and ensure the accuracy of our reported financial results.
  • Collaborate closely with the home office and local management teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Work directly with the Internal Audit department to maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) for our branch operations.
  • Supervise and direct branch-level accounting staff, providing guidance and feedback to help them accomplish their tasks and solve problems.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Branch Manager and Leadership Team, to provide financial expertise and support their decision-making.
  • Proactively conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making and identify areas for profitability improvement and process optimization.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to streamline branch processes, identifying opportunities for automation and improvement to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads and home office, analyzing variances and providing recommendations to achieve financial targets.
  • Ensure accounting systems and processes are continually streamlined via process improvement to achieve greater efficiency and accuracy in the level and timeliness of reporting.
  • Manage federal and provincial government audit management as needed.
  • Administer and maintain the Canadian fixed assets system, including Capex projects, acquisitions, and dispositions.
  • Manage Canadian payroll process, including CRA reporting, worker compensation, GST, and PST reporting and remittances for five provinces.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS), and financial analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience with 5 years in manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with internal/external audit compliance.
  • 3 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft software environment with expert-level Microsoft Excel skills.
  • SAP/BPC/SAC experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including people development and delegation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a track record of effectively resolving financial and operational challenges.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience in managing teams and leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly and concisely.
