Job Title: Resource Teacher - Special Education

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional educator to join our team as a Resource Teacher - Special Education. This is a full-time, temporary contract position with Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23) in Kelowna, BC.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programming for students with special needs in K-12 settings.
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the BC Ministry of K-12 Prescribed Learning Outcomes.
  • Modify and/or adapt curriculum in accordance with BC Ministry of Education Special Education Policy and Guidelines.
  • Provide effective supervision of Certified Education Assistants.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, students, community support personnel, and colleagues in Student Support Services.
Requirements:
  • Advanced study in Special Education, including courses in Children with Exceptionalities, Assessment of Learning Difficulties, and Programming for students with special needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current/recent training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and current practices in Special Education.
  • Experience working with Special Education technology and/or willingness to attend training sessions.
  • Training/experience in Quality Assessment practices, such as differentiated instruction, criterion-referenced grading, and assessment for, of, and as learning.
What We Offer:

The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
