Mainline Excavator Operator

As a Mainline Excavator Operator with Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd., you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of mainline excavators. Reporting to the Foreman, you will be responsible for ensuring that completed work meets the company's policies and procedures, as well as Alberta Occupational Health and Safety and contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate mainline excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated safely to the proper depth/grade.
  • Responsible for the placement of pipes and structures within the excavation, adhering to proper rigging and hoisting procedures.

Technical Requirements:

  • Knowledge of mainline excavator operation and other heavy equipment.
  • Understanding of underground utility construction materials, processes, and industry requirements.
  • Knowledge of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Understanding of DEF systems and operation standards.

Working Environment:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 20 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Must comply with the Company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy).
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating an excavator.
  • Knowledge of underground industry standards and OH&S requirements.
