Occupational Health and Safety Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to join our Health and Safety team at The Universal Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our traffic control personnel and adhering to strict transport guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting Field Staff: Provide coaching and guidance to field staff on safe operating procedures, engage in conflict resolution, administer training, and facilitate corrective actions for safety shortcomings.
  • Investigation Work: Conduct regular site inspections, investigate accidents and unsafe acts, and conduct drug and alcohol testing as necessary.
  • Administrative Activities: Liaise with clients to ensure regulatory compliance, assist with internal COR audits, review health and safety documentation, and assist in developing safe work practices.
  • Company Program Facilitation: Facilitate the Universal Mentorship Program and the Universal Group's Injured Worker Engagement Program.
Requirements:
  • Certified as a Traffic Control Person (TCP) by a WorkSafe approved training provider.
  • Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying BC's Workers Comp Act, OHS Regulations, Policies, Guidelines, and Standards.
  • BCCSA Certified COR Internal Audit or willingness to obtain.
  • Level 2 First Aid or willingness to obtain.
  • Diploma/Certificate and/or previous work experience in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset.
  • Certification and/or work experience as a CSO or OFA is an asset.
  • Experience with Health and Safety software such as Salus.
  • Experience with Office 365 and G-Suite.
  • Experience with Investigation.
