Multimedia Journalist

We are seeking a highly skilled Multimedia Journalist to join our esteemed parliamentary bureau in Ottawa. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging content to our audience through various platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Write, edit, and gather multimedia content for our various services, including print, broadcast, and video.
- Deliver exclusive, enterprise, and investigative material on a regular basis.
- Report breaking news using all available platforms, including audio, video, and social media.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, share sources, and divide workload.
- Support other bureaus in handling federal politics.
- Distill large amounts of information to determine key and important information under time constraints.
- Occasional shift work, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
- At least five years of solid experience in a real-time, digital newsroom.
- A proven network of sources in Ottawa.
- Excellent knowledge and demonstrated professional experience using different platforms, including broadcast, video, and multimedia.
- Ability to work in an intense working environment with a high degree of public scrutiny.
- Ability to work under extreme deadline pressures.
- Ability to make contacts and develop relationships with communities across Canada to better find and tell stories about the real-life impacts of political decisions.
- Ability to disseminate complex information to a general audience.
- Proven ability to write with flair.
- A strong background in political journalism with a track record for generating scoops.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English. French skills would also be an asset.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Familiarity with access-to-information legislation and databases.
- Ability to edit and improve colleagues' work on short notice.
- Self-starter who can take initiative and develop story ideas independently.
- Ability to travel on short notice on an infrequent basis.
