Job Description

Job Title: Senior Buyer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Buyer to join our team at General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada. As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for procuring major/critical production commodities and materials, troubleshooting supplier problems, and documenting purchase orders to comply with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure major/critical production commodities and materials
  • Troubleshoot supplier problems and assist with resolution
  • Document purchase orders to comply with company policies and procedures
  • Conduct supplier surveillance and audits
  • Provide inputs into procurement decisions, including make/buy, source selection, and supplier qualifications
  • Lead, direct, and mentor other Buyers
  • Perform buying function for raw materials, with an emphasis on improving supplier quality and lowering costs
  • Negotiate and manage various suppliers performing services on a continuing basis
  • Assist Manager with various projects as needed
  • Assess plans and negotiate with key suppliers regarding costs, terms, and delivery schedules
  • Ensure all communications regarding material status are generated, presented, and distributed to appropriate personnel
  • Lead supplier issues resolutions, work with Program Manager, Supplier Quality, etc. to resolve supplier quality issues, identify sources for new products, and improve supplier performance
  • Lead process improvement initiatives
  • Perform Supply Chain planning strategies
  • Support internal, customer, and external compliance audits
  • Support and follow government purchasing regulations and ensure compliance with all internal requirements
  • Coordinate risk assessments and execute risk management plans for moderate to high-risk procurements
  • Perform sourcing/market research
  • Perform analysis of purchasing needs, including analysis of costs
  • Forecast requirements, issue periodic reports on trends, and negotiate pricing, discounts, and contracts

Qualifications:

  • A College diploma or University degree in a related discipline
  • Requires over 10 years of related experience in inventory systems, material management, and purchasing
  • Good understanding of procurement laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
