Electrical Engineering Technician Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineering Technician to join our team at Shermco, a leading provider of electrical testing and engineering services. As an Electrical Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical power systems.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform electrical analysis and design in both industrial and utility sectors
  2. Design and integrate protective relaying systems for industrial and utility applications
  3. Develop and implement industrial and utility substation automation solutions
  4. Conduct electrical studies, including short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, load flow, grounding, and harmonic studies
  5. Create and modify electrical drawing packages, including single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and general arrangements
  6. Design and modify electrical distribution systems, including MCCs, switchgear, breakers, fuses, switches, transformers, capacitor banks, current transformers, potential transformers, protective relays, and controls
  7. Troubleshoot electrical system problems and develop practical solutions to correct deficiencies
  8. Support field services division for maintenance and commissioning activities on customer sites
  9. Conduct onsite inspections and data collection

Requirements:
  1. Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
  2. Understanding of industrial and utility protection and relay systems
  3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  4. Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (CEC, IEEE1584)
  5. Experience with electrical engineering software, such as EasyPower, SKM, and ETAP, considered an asset
  6. Understanding of microprocessor-based relays and their capabilities considered an asset
  7. Valid driver's license and clean abstract required for fieldwork
  8. Fluent English language skills

What We Offer:

Competitive salary range of $35 to $55 per hour, depending on experience. Overtime pay after 8 hours and double time after 10 hours.
