Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is seeking a talented Modeling Artist to participate in our VFX Training Program, also known as the Jedi Academy. This paid 6-week placement is designed for recent graduates or industry artists with up to two years of experience in the VFX field.
About the Program:
The Jedi Academy provides a unique opportunity for individuals to train under the guidance of our experienced Jedi Masters. As a Modeling Artist, you will be placed in the Modeling department and will have the chance to hone your skills in all areas needed to become a successful artist and team member.
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with all levels of show supervision to create high-quality models and textures.
- Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced artists to improve your skills and knowledge.
- Assist in the creation of model and texture libraries, and perform quality control checks on assets built by external vendors.
- Collaborate with a small team of artists from multiple disciplines to achieve project goals.
- Develop strong professional habits, including best practices for presenting work in dailies, working as a team, and communicating effectively.
- Gain knowledge and appreciation of ILM's culture and history.
Requirements:
- Positive outlook, artistic and technical talent.
- Excited for the industry and eager to learn.
- Strong sense of scale and proportion.
- Good organization and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to tackle delegated tasks with a minimum of supervision.
- Demonstrated understanding of model principles and artistic ability through a strong demo reel.
- Experience using Maya and Zbrush, with a firm grasp of their capabilities.
- Interest in creatures, characters, robots, vehicles, spaceships, architecture, and how things mechanically work.
- Traditional model building, texture abilities, and traditional art skills such as painting, drawing, and sculpting are a plus.
What We Offer:
ILM offers a competitive hourly rate of C$25.14 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
