Research Focus:
The Nguyen lab, led by Dr. Long Nguyen, a clinician scientist and breast medical oncologist, is situated within the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Our research is centered on breast cancer, specifically investigating the mechanisms that govern cancer stem cell activity and their implications for disease progression, relapse, and treatment resistance.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Design and lead an independent research project aimed at identifying cell states and molecular mechanisms influencing cancer stem cells in human breast cancer models.
- Collaborate with industry and international academic partners, contingent on project success.
- Align research projects with the strategic objectives of the lab, with guidance from the Principal Investigator.
- Train and mentor students engaged in their own research initiatives.
- Collaborate with scientific partners to execute project objectives.
- Conduct sophisticated analyses of single-cell sequencing datasets with support from computational experts.
- Develop and review standard operating procedures for laboratory practices.
Qualifications include:
- A recent PhD degree.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt in a dynamic research environment.
- Advanced expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques, including tissue culture, molecular cloning, lentiviral transduction, and CRISPR.
- Moderate experience in computational analysis using R and bash for large DNA/RNA sequencing datasets.
