Student Support Advisor

Position Overview:

This role serves as a temporary, part-time support position, aimed at assisting students in their transition to post-secondary education. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week and will report to the Manager of Access Programs.

Key Responsibilities:


• Build strong relationships with students to facilitate their educational journey.

• Collaborate with educators to provide support tailored to student needs.

• Offer academic guidance to students navigating their educational options.

• Conduct outreach to discuss educational pathways and identify potential barriers.

• Engage with graduating high school students to explore future opportunities and necessary prerequisites.

• Collect and analyze data to support students in their application processes.

• Assist students with college applications and provide necessary resources.

• Help students identify and address challenges, including personal, financial, and academic issues.

• Connect students with community resources for additional support.

• Organize opportunities for students to experience college programs firsthand.

Qualifications:


• A diploma or degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or Child and Youth Care, or equivalent experience is required.

• At least two years of experience in student services or a related field, with direct interaction with students.

• Proven experience in case management and providing student support services.

• Familiarity with data management and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

• A compassionate approach to student learning and success.

• Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate educational workshops.

• Knowledge of available college and community resources.

• Strong problem-solving and assessment skills to address various situations.

• Capability to work independently while collaborating with college staff and partners.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents.

• Understanding of the post-secondary educational landscape, including programs and services.
