The Nurse Practitioner plays a pivotal role in the Oncology Program at William Osler Health System, collaborating closely with the Medical Director and the multidisciplinary patient care team. This position is centered around delivering exceptional clinical care through the following responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations to determine patient needs and health status.
- Diagnosis and Treatment: Utilize advanced practice skills to diagnose conditions and prescribe treatments in accordance with established medical protocols.
- Patient Monitoring: Track patient progress meticulously, ensuring accurate documentation and regular re-evaluation of care plans.
- Clinical Decision-Making: Address clinical practice challenges with a high degree of autonomy, applying expert knowledge to manage both acute and chronic conditions effectively.
- Education and Leadership: Facilitate in-service training and clinical education for the oncology care team, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Protocol Development: Spearhead the creation and implementation of organization-wide protocols that enhance patient care in oncology.
- Research Engagement: Participate in evidence-based practice initiatives, contributing to research that informs clinical practices.
- Consultative Role: Serve as a resource for internal and external stakeholders regarding systems and practices related to oncology care.
- Master's degree in Nursing.
- Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is mandatory.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses.
- A minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in Oncology care.
- At least 2 years of experience as an ACNP in the Oncology field.
- Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to inspire and lead teams effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with computerized data management and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated reliability in attendance and punctuality.
This position operates on a day shift schedule, encompassing 8-hour shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays, subject to operational needs.
