Job Overview: This role is based in Toronto and necessitates the individual to be present in the office several days a week. Focus on Casualty Underwriting. Under general supervision and adhering to established protocols – market, assess, review, evaluate, and oversee new and renewal casualty accounts. In this capacity, you will be accountable for the business development, expansion, and profitability of a portfolio, emphasizing new business generation from strategic broker partnerships. The ideal candidate will drive business outcomes through effective underwriting, marketing, and consultative selling. Maintaining high-quality working relationships with brokers and internal business partners will be essential. Key Responsibilities: Underwrite a portfolio of Casualty risks; assess acceptability and provide recommendations. Price a profitable portfolio of Casualty risks in accordance with underwriting, financial, and competitive analysis while aligning with company guidelines. Support business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives through sound underwriting practices and responsible marketing. Assist in strategic business plans aimed at enhancing the presence of the business group in the market; retain the appropriate mix of business; and accomplish overall growth and profit objectives. Respond to underwriting and marketing strategies and standards by executing a marketing plan that reflects local market conditions while meeting growth and profit targets. As necessary, develop specialized policy and endorsement language. Cultivate and maintain broker relationships to achieve favorable outcomes. Occasional travel to key markets across Canada is anticipated. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is mandatory. CIP/FCIP, CRM preferred or actively pursuing completion. Several years of underwriting experience in primary and excess casualty. Strong sales and marketing capabilities. Established broker relationships across Canada are highly desirable. Technical underwriting expertise and a comprehensive understanding of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures. In-depth knowledge of Casualty lines of business and legal and regulatory guidelines in Canada. Additional Skills and Attributes: Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively engage with all levels of internal and external business partners. Advanced analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the capacity to manage and prioritize effectively. Strong broker relationships. Proficient influencing and negotiation skills. Energetic and passionate about the P&C insurance sector. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
