Position Overview:

This role is essential for delivering technical and operational guidance in Health and Safety within the designated business unit or facility. The incumbent will advocate for the execution of Health and Safety protocols that align with Cenovus's Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure adherence to regulatory standards pertinent to all Health and Safety aspects relevant to the operations of the assigned unit. Collaboration with management is crucial to foster a culture focused on continuous enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve the annual strategic objectives outlined in the Health and Safety performance agreement for the unit.
  • Assist in formulating and executing plans to address identified gaps.
  • Ensure a robust assurance and self-verification program is operational, encompassing all components of COIMS, and conduct assurance activities as per the established plan.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to frontline leaders and personnel on occupational safety, enhancing their expertise and supporting safe work execution. This includes working closely with site leadership to meet or surpass performance metrics.
  • Deliver an independent assessment of operational risks, with intervention as necessary based on identified risks.
  • Lead and/or support incident investigations, ensuring root causes are determined in accordance with COIMS requirements, while guiding site leadership in driving preventive actions.
  • Encourage collaboration between the Deployed Health and Safety team and the Central Health and Safety Team, utilizing Technical Authorities and multidisciplinary support for effective communication.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience is essential.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is mandatory.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate/Diploma or Degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Certification as a Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Training in Process Safety (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, P&ID Interpretation) is advantageous.
  • Certification in Root Cause Analysis (e.g., Sologic) is desirable.
  • Experience in supervising personnel is necessary.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role is required.
  • Experience within the oil and gas sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the oil and gas industry is essential.
