Sign Language Interpreter

The Toronto Catholic District School Board is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team as an Educational Support Staff member. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to education.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary interpreter of communication between deaf and hard of hearing students and mainstream teachers and students.
- Provide direct and full access to regular classroom areas and participate in extra-curricular activities.
- Interpret for deaf and hard of hearing students, regular students/teachers in a normal classroom setting.
- Carry out cross-cultural mediation and bimodal communication.
- Instruct school staff and students about the role of the interpreter through workshops, handouts, and role plays.
- 3-year College Diploma in American Sign Language English Interpreter Program or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of related experience.
- Fluent in ASL, English, and manually-coded English.
- General knowledge of Secondary School curricula.
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic verified through a Pastoral reference.
This is a CUPE Local 1328 union position with a bi-weekly pay of $2,566.30 to $3, $55, $66,487.46, effective September 1, 2024.
